U.S.
Lifts Majority of Sanctions against Libya
President
Bush has lifted most of the remaining trade sanction on Libya. As a reward
for Libya's renunciation of Weapons of Mass Destruction and its recent
co-operation in the fight against international terrorism the US has removed
most trade barriers. However, Libya remains on the state sponsors of terrorism
list and full diplomatic relations have yet to be re-established. A number
of US Oil companies can reactivate their investments which have remained
frozen over the last 20 years.
Families of victims of the Lockerbie
Flight 103 bombing by Libya are less enthusiastic and accuse the Bush
administration of being more concerned about oil than justice for the
loss of their loved ones.
